About

I am a foster caregiver for Toronto Cat Rescue. The first 18 months were an adventure, so I thought I’d start writing about it and help keep it all straight. The photo above is of my own two, Jonesy, the black and white, and Murphy, the brown tabby. Both were adopted from Toronto Cat Rescue. All my fosters — past and present — are on the Meet the Foster Cats page.
I may end up writing about other things, but for now, the focus is on fostering and cat rescue issues.

Bree ate most of her breakfast and some of her dinner. She has been playing a bit but has preferred to be in the carrier with the door open. She purrs quite a bit but ends up coughing after she purrs or eats. Not sure if she is bored or sad. She is grooming herself so that is a good sign. She has also used the litter box. Keeping my eye on her.

Thanks for the update!! Yes, we were pretty sure she had some throat irritation from the surgery. If she’s still coughing on Monday get in touch with the post-adoption group. She probably feels more secure in the carrier. Lots of TLC should do the trick. 😉 As long as she’s eating and using the litter box, everything else should follow.

Would you be interested in guest posting about your fostering work? I volunteer for a UK cat charity but fostering is a new perspective we don’t have at The Mummy Toolbox. Let me know 🙂

I’d be thrilled and delighted! Just give me some guidance on the kind of thing(s) you’d like me to cover, what is too long (I can go on about fostering forever!) and a deadline. Must.have.deadline. 😉 My email is heatherleed (at) gmail.com

    • How nice! Thank you. I think when you first call up the site, in the lower right corner there’s a button to “follow”. Although when I look it seems to disappear if you scroll down. In the meantime, I’ll see if I can find a way to “pin” it to the page.

  6. Where I live, there are millions of feral cats running around. The very few shelters are full, and cats’ feeders get harassed constantly. I like finding nice people who care enough to foster and take care of the street cats. Got four cats myself, all from the streets.

I heard there’s a foster system where people take home kittens for a while and give them back to the shelter when they’re old enough to care for themselves, like eat cats food instead of needing to be fed powdered milk. And there are also people who take feral cats to their homes and look for someone to adopt them. Also, in the vet’s clinic they take sick and wounded feral cats and take care of them for free until they’re healthy, keeping them in the backroom and asking people if they want to adopt. If they don’t find anyone who wants to take them, they put them back on the streets. They have no choice, because they can’t take them all. There are just too many.
