Detour

I was going to announce the naming theme and get some help choosing names. But you know how these things go. Last night one of our neo-natal specialists was going to come over and help me confirm genders. But she had to cancel. And then it ended up being a busy night. I had a meeting, but worse, mama cat has stopped eating. She alert and active and seems to want to eat but she hasn’t eaten a meal in at least 36 hours. And she has diarrhea.

Worst of all, the kittens are not gaining and I’m worried she’s losing her milk. Everybody still bellies up to the milkbar; I’m just not sure they’re getting anything. 😦  I tried bottle feeding and that didn’t go so well. Then I noticed that they were eliminating on their own. In desperation, I tried a “slurry” (formula mixed with food) and bingo! instant hit!! Everyone loved it though, so far, five out of six will only take it from a syringe — they won’t eat from a plate.  If their birthdate is correct they’re only three weeks old today. I think that the youngest “solid” food eaters I’ve had. But I am so relieved!!

I’m going to try and get mama to the vet for a check up.

About Adventures in Cat Fostering

I am a cat fosterer for Toronto Cat Rescue. I also have cats of my own, Jonesy, the black and white, and Murphy, the brown tabby, are in the photo. Little Blue was a foster kitten I kept. All were adopted from Toronto Cat Rescue.
