Cat garden

Jonesy is such a fiend for greens and he can destroy a simple pot of cat grass in minutes.

A while ago, I saw a video on making an herb garden for your cat. (Search DIY cat garden — it’s the Food Network one.)

I filed it away and when the garden centres opened this spring I went and got the plants I needed. I already had wheat grass seeds; I started some in a pot to transplant and also scattered some extra seeds in the big pot. I couldn’t find catnip, but I’m growing my own and will add it soon. It’s been a big success. They like the grass the best but they’ve sampled everything, I think.

I’ve been keeping it outside and bringing it in every once in a while because two minutes after I bring it in:

  1. Several of my cats like cat grass, and I grow it in a shallow container which I inevitably forget to water. My current batch is half dead and quite pathetic.
