Not funny but actually pretty funny

I was home sick yesterday — one of the last to get a bad cold being passed around our office. And just my luck, it was “fire alarm testing day” in our building. The annual test which goes on all day and includes in-suite checking of the unit alarm.

The first time the alarm went off — to let us know the testing was happening — cat reactions were swift! Poor Chaz was snoozing in the living room window. He jumped a couple of feet in the air, fortunately landing on the love seat. Murphy flew off his chair, heading for the bedroom. I didn’t see the kittens but I know they’d been asleep. When I looked in they were both sitting, wide-eyed and staring. Only Jonesy was still asleep on the climbing tree. I guess he, at least, has gotten used to it.

By the end of the day, Chaz, too, was used to it and would just look up. Murphy and the kittens would dive for cover every.single.time. Not good for your image, Murphy, not good. You’ve been hearing those alarms for eight years!

Loki (who’s the most relaxed cat ever) and Furry (who is naturally playful and a bit jumpy) have gotten so used to me setting off the smoke detector while I cook that they don’t even notice! I always feel bad because it hurts my ears and must be bothering them too.
