Taking a chance

Remember Percy? And the amazing Kim and Anthony who adopted a ten-year-old cat with kidney disease? Well, check out this fabulous update:

We … took him to his first vet appointment a couple of weeks ago. Getting him in the carrier was definitely a harrowing experience, and he didn’t talk to me for a few days afterwards, but other than that, it went very well. Our vet said he’s in great shape and that she’s really impressed considering his history.  She said she’s not even all that concerned about his kidneys at this point as his levels were not too abnormal, although we should obviously keep giving him his medication.

I can’t begin to express how outstanding this update is. I was supposed to be giving him fluids to help his kidneys when he was with me. (We weighed stress  vs. benefit and decided against.) And as far as his socialization goes:

He’s really settled in now and seems very comfortable. He’s mostly only sociable at meal times, but he is very affectionate when he’s out and about. He’s even come up on the couch a few times although mostly he just enjoys the head scratches from the floor. We can still hear him and Oskar chirping to each other, although never when we’re in the room. Their relationship is apparently a secret, but when we bring out the cat treats, they both come running. They’ve even shared the water bowl a few times, but don’t let them know that we caught them in the act.  🙂

Some good care, some kindness, some love. It really doesn’t take all that much to change — and save — a life. Congratulations Percy on your happy ending. And thank you a million more times to Kim and Anthony for taking a chance on him. So happy it paid off for them!

NOTE: and, of course, Ace was adopted. That was definitely one where I had little doubt!
