Full House

Things are kinda tough for rescues right now — they always are in the summer. Lots of cats and kittens out there but lots of foster people on vacation. So look who I just got:

gang orange

Two have pretty gunky eyes and have started on meds. They are all quite different sizes, but the largest (black in the back) and the smallest (black and white in front) and the orange one are all polydactyl. The black one is also medium-haired and a manx! Apparently they’re from an “overcrowded situation” (the “h” word wasn’t used) so that would explain the size differences and the polydactyl-ism (and the gunky eyes, for that matter). They’re probably all related even if they don’t share the same mom and dad. The grey and white one is actually a very dilute calico/tortie! She has very pale cream spots.

They were all a little shell-shocked and at least the two aren’t feeling very well. But they’ll bounce back; some meds, some rest in a clean place, and they’ll be different little kittens in no time. They slept all afternoon, no doubt exhausted from their travel adventures. The first eye cleaning — warm camomile tea — and treatment (drops) was pretty gross. Little black&white had a lot of pus in her eyes. It must have felt so good when I was done. Orange guy was mostly crusty with just a little pus. I hope there’s no damage to their eyes; so far them seem ok. They certainly follow things, but how clear their vision is remains to be seen. (no pun intended) Suppertime was very successful; everyone was happy to tuck into wet food! Afterwards the two healthy ones played and even the other two looked more alert. It makes me a little sad to see how little it takes for them to feel better. A quiet, clean environment, some TLC (eye cleaning), and a good meal. I’m glad it works, of course, but sad that someone couldn’t even do that much for them.

Two of them are going to another foster and getting picked up tonight. It’s a “newish” foster so I’ve been asked to keep the two sickest ones — the ginger and the black & white. My first polydactyls!! I didn’t have a good look, but I think ginger might have more than one extra toe!

They’re supposed to be six weeks old so if all goes well (HA!) they probably won’t be here long. But I still have to think of names! I don’t think I’ll go with a theme or even a “pair” since they probably aren’t full siblings. Any suggestions?  I’m considering Casey for the b&w. Possibly Ethan for little ginger. But no names will be assigned until the other two are picked up. Just in case. Who I was keeping has already changed once.

  1. Aww, poor little babies. Glad they were rescued and that they ended up with your rescue group and with you! Casey and Ethan are good names. Coincidentally, both cousins of mine. 🙂

Oh my gosh, how awful – the “h” words, ack!! 😦 Looking forward to seeing how they improve over the next few weeks! 💚

Hi Heather, I will call you tonight. Maybe THIS little orange one would be a good match here. I am so glad Percy has a wonderful life. Sharon
