So much going on!

That was a long-for-me break. I did say it was going to be a crazy busy week …

First, Birch has been adopted. I didn’t get official notification (my foster coordinator has been crazy busy and is now on a much-needed vacation) but she’s not on the adoption website anymore.

We’re still dog-sitting, too. Bella is with us for almost two weeks. She’s soooooo good with the cats. Grumpy Pete was a little wary at first but now he barely notices her. She does add another element to the crazy, though. Dogs have to be walked! 😉

Pete has continued to give me a hard time with eating. 😦  I appealled to the amazing Foster Parents Facebook page and the accumulated knowledge and experience there. Got some great suggestions and I think we may have found a winning combination. Whiskas Chicken pate (I know, but it’s food!) and Nutrical. He loves it. And I serve him on the counter so he can take his time and not be interrupted. Mostly. Before fostering I NEVER had this much trouble with picky or reluctant eaters.

Cedar, Magnolia, and Cherry had their surgeries. When I picked them up, the receptionist said “You’d never know anything had been done to them!” In fact, when they were handed back to me they were playing with a toy in their crate. They came home for the night and went to work in the morning.  Then I battled Friday afternoon traffic to the downtown west end and — in what may be a first — didn’t get lost! Although I was born in the west end of the city, I grew up in the east and just can’t seem to get the hang of Toronto’s west end. Most of the city is a pretty straightforward grid; not the west end and especially not where I was going. Roads curve and bend and stop and start again blocks later! But the kittens got to the adoptathon. Cedar was crying when I left so I got a little misty. A couple of people promised to keep me posted. I was out most of yesterday but managed to get messages that Cedar (first) and Magnolia and, finally, Cherry were all adopted — OF COURSE!

After dropping off the kittens I went home to clean up the foster room and get ready for some human company. Then I rushed out to the vet’s to pick up two more fosters. Yup. A mom and son turned in to us by a member of the public. They dropped her off at the vet with a “by the way, she may be pregnant”!!! That was not what I agreed to. And the kitten has a URI. The timing was such that the vet couldn’t examine them. They may have to go back. For now, they’ve been treated for fleas (my biggest “I can’t cope”). I’ll watch for signs of worms, work on the URI, and start socializing them. They’re not fierce, just timid. Mom is supposed to be friendly but I think she’s a little shell-shocked right now. Sadly, the name she arrived with was “Mumsie”. Seriously?? That’s as far as your imagination went? The kitten is “Baloo” so mom is now “Raksha”. No photos yet; I’ve seen brief glimpses of Baloo at the food/water but mostly they’ve both been under the desk.

So much for replacing the floor that Oprah and the Trees have destroyed!!
