Extreme Playtime

I am sitting here at the computer (the new one is still out in the living room; I’m not ready for it to be exposed to kittens yet) laughing away to myself at the chaos going on around me.

This morning the kittens had NO INTEREST in breakfast. They just wanted freedom! As I sit here, Maple is in the basket I keep for recycling paper, playing with a toilet roll. They are taking turns zooming from living room to bathroom and back — clompity, clompity, clompity, skid, bang. I watched three, in a race, bang into the wall and door. I had to tie the curtains up out of reach. Cherry is drinking from the fountain. There is a bell on a toy tinkling behind me. Murphy has just jumped up on the table and slunk behind the computer. He’s not allowed on the table but I’ll allow it as an escape this time.

There was a whole series of tiny Magnolia and big Linden chasing each other from the kitten room to the bathroom and back. Magnolia would chase Linden into the bathroom and he’d chase her back.

Linden just did the crab walk! First time I’ve seen any of them do it.

Mostly, Oprah watches. But every once in a while the kitten in her can’t resist and she joins in, chasing and playing and tackling. Two of them ran right over her but the second got grabbed and groomed.

I LOVE the clompy sound of little paws and laugh every time they miss a corner — kittens this age don’t “corner” very well and their back ends usually go out from under them. It barely slows them down. πŸ™‚ They bounce, thank goodness. The number of times they run practically full speed into the wall is a little scary.

I must go round them up. That’s a whole other adventure — and a workout!

About Adventures in Cat Fostering

I am a cat fosterer for Toronto Cat Rescue. I also have two cats of my own, Jonesy, the black and white, and Murphy, the brown tabby, in the photo. Both were adopted from Toronto Cat Rescue.

I am always amazed by the amount of noise they make. My two chase each other around at night and it sounds like a couple of elephants. Even without the crashes when they knock something over. I hope you’re taking videos! πŸ˜„
