On the cusp …

These adorable little beasts are just on the cusp of the “scamper” stage. Yesterday when I got home they were all awake and alert, taking in their world. A couple of the girls were staring, speculatively, at the wall of the box. Linden is the most shy — I guess that’s why he’s always on the bottom of the pile. So I’m trying to give him extra snuggles. He doesn’t squeal the whole time now and seems to be coming around. They’ve begun wrestling and play fighting and grooming! Last night a couple of the girls were clearly enjoying being petted* — pushing their little heads into my (and Tammy’s) hand.

According to the current standard dictionaries in both Canadian and American publishing, your instinct is spot on: “petted” is the past participle for the verb “to pet.” 🙂
