Taking a break

So it’s Day 11 (and no kittens), but I’ve been told the kitten watch posts are getting “boring”.Β  So here’s a post that isn’t anything to do with cats, never mind fostering.

A little while ago we had very special visitor at work. Meet Kue — the hedgehog!

To give you an idea of scale, Zola, the dog, weighs about five pounds!

Kue is an African Pygmy Hedgehog. She’s five years old (that’s pretty old for a hedgehog) and she came from a breeder. Our new IT guy, Kingsley, has had her since she was little. Her markings and colouring are beautiful and she has the MOST adorable face and ears. (Oh! I wanted to touch her ears!) She moves pretty quickly and was happy to explore.

She is quite feisty and when she feels threatened, instead of curling into a ball as most hedgehogs would, she “huffs” and lunges! She did curl up into a ball to have a nap. She’s intimidating enough, and her spikes are spiky enough, that we were all too nervous to pick her up. But she’s fun to watch and I got to feed her a few kibbles — crunch, crunch, crunch — she’s really loud. πŸ˜‰Β  She eats a mixture of dog and cat kibble (to get the right balance for her) and her favourite treat is meal worms!

We’re all hoping Kue will come back to visit another day. (Those who missed her are jealous.)

About Adventures in Cat Fostering

I am a cat fosterer for Toronto Cat Rescue. I also have two cats of my own, Jonesy, the black and white, and Murphy, the brown tabby, in the photo. Both were adopted from Toronto Cat Rescue.

  1. I think they are important so we know if the kittens have arrived yet or not! πŸ™‚ But yes, this is a cute picture. Thanks for sharing it!

Okay, I did some thinking and figure that Oprah will have been with you 21 days by Saturday which means that she probably got pregnant around Christmas, which would make sense with all the romance around the holidays. If you had any idea how long she was in the shelter then she really will have the kittens any day now. Maybe she is waiting to have leap year babies 😊.

I’m reading backwards, but I usually love kitten watch posts
