I hope with every fibre of my being that I never have a cat as sick as Leah was. But poor Oprah is pretty sick. She had a cold when she arrived and, despite medications, she’s been getting steadily worse. She stopped eating on Saturday and I spent the day trying to come up with more tempting (= smelly) things. No luck. I also steamed her regularly. Sunday morning she was worse with horrifying pink snot bubbles. Those’ll freak you out, let me tell you! (They’re not necessarily serious; just evidence of irritation of her nasal passages.) But a couple of good steamings and she seemed to relax a bit, though her breathing was more laboured. And her poor little (black) nose was quite red and raw. 😦 I did manage to force feed her (via syringe) some baby food chicken.
Sunday I continued to steam her and though it stressed her out (running water) it did seem to help. After a flurry of emails with senior TCR people I got permission to start her on new antibiotics. And to use vapo rub in her steaming sessions. She was better if I held her during the sessions, but then humidity affects MY breathing (asthma). So I’d leave her by herself for a while, but come in towards the end of the time and hold her. Quite the balancing act, all things considered! (Not to mention trying to hang-dry laundry with the shower running for 20 minutes every two-three hours!!!!)
By the end of the day, I couldn’t see any improvement. In fact, just as I was giving an update, she had the most violent sneezing attack I’ve ever seen. Lot of pink snot again. And I could no longer force feed her; she’d gag and spit it out. So I asked to get her in to the vet. She’ll spend the day there and hopefully they can help her feel better.
