The truth about black cats

In honour of Regine and Shakira — who are now up for adoption! — I give you 17 reasons to own a black cat via the lovely people over at Katzenworld.

There were a number of black cats in the latest HSI rescue. I don’t know about the others, but Regine and Shakira are really lovely girls.¬†Personality-wise they are what the vast majority of adopters are looking for*:

  • young & playful (Shakira’s practically still a kitten!)
  • affectionate (Regine, especially, is crazy affectionate)
  • low maintenance (they’ll eat anything, they have excellent litter box habits, they use the scratching post)

It’s a shame and colossally unfair that they will be overlooked, time and time again, simply because of their fur colour.

*Recent developments in the house have revealed a dark side to their personalities: they are thieves! When I feed Brooklyn, the girls will come along, reach their paws into the cage, drag the food dish close to the bars, and proceed to help themselves — one pawful at a time — to Brooklyn’s food!!

About Adventures in Cat Fostering

I am a cat fosterer for Toronto Cat Rescue. I also have two cats of my own, Jonesy, the black and white, and Murphy, the brown tabby, in the photo. Both were adopted from Toronto Cat Rescue.
