Because I can’t catch a break …

Murphy is sick. 😦

Now that most of the kittens are gone he “decides” to get sick. He had a big upset on Wednesday; I accidentally left him and Claire locked in the bedroom all day. They have a litter box in there, but nothing else. He was pretty annoyed — to say the least. Even if he’d been fully supplied with his favourite food, he’d still be annoyed. He’s a cat and he doesn’t like closed doors (except to keep kittens confined!)

On Thursday night he vomited; happens all the time with Jonesy, but it’s rare with Murphy. On Friday morning I could tell he was out of sorts. Friday night when I came home he had vomited again. Later in the evening and this morning, more vomit — the dreaded green bile. 😦  He’d been very lethargic, too, just lying on the end of the bed. When I offered him food he would gag — like a person!! I’ve never seen that.

IMG_3991So I called York Mills this morning. I’ve only used them for fosters but have been considering switching. I like my vet a lot but I like York Mills, too, and they’re a lot closer. And I feel like I’m there all the time anyway! Of course they told us to come on in. Although they didn’t have many appointments booked, TCR was keeping them hopping! Someone was leaving with a foster as I arrived. While I was there (helping to feed an orphan) another volunteer arrived to drop off three juveniles and pick up five tiny kittens. And someone was expected to pick up an adult and the orphan I’d been feeding.

In typical cat fashion, Murphy displayed no obvious signs or symptoms. No fever, normal gut sounds, nothing in the throat. Dr. Amanda said his belly was a little sensitive, but nothing severe. So they gave him some fluids, some anti-nausea medication, and some  Pepto bismol-type stuff. We came home with another dose of anti-nausea (injectable!!!) and more stomach stuff. Let’s hope his stomach settles enough so that he feels better and will eat and feel more better! Cause if he doesn’t, it’ll be some expensive testing next.

About Adventures in Cat Fostering

I am a cat fosterer for Toronto Cat Rescue. I also have cats of my own, Jonesy, the black and white, and Murphy, the brown tabby, are in the photo. Little Blue was a foster kitten I kept. All were adopted from Toronto Cat Rescue.

  1. Oh I hope Murphy gets better… We have been very lucky with our furrbabies thus far. But would be really upset if they were sick
