A tough gig (sometimes)

Remember that lovely “taking a breath” week? Was it only a week ago? This fostering gig … whew. This past week has been crazy though, in fairness to the cats, window replacements and mis-scheduled airport runs had a lot to do with it. Multi-segregations (Claire in the cat room, kittens in the bathroom) also tend to ramp up the stress factor. The girls are champing to get out; lots of crying when the door’s closed and lots of scampering when it opens. I’d let them out but I’m just not sure about Arthur — and my boys. The girls are so teeny still. Not like some of the other solo kittens I’ve had running around. They did have a good run yesterday while the boys were all in the bedroom. I’m kicking myself that I forgot (again) to get batteries for my camera. It was an amazing show. Lots of thumpity-thumpity across the room and back. At one point Mandy did one of those pounce-pounce-leap things at Bree and landed back feet first on top of her!

And yet, as far as I can tell, fostering is nothing compared with what the executive members of TCR do. All have multiple time-consuming jobs with TCR. Most have full time “life” jobs. Most foster as well. And while I may see all the intake lists, and agonize over being too full to take any, I never have to know which ones make it and which ones don’t. And they all have so much patience! Patience with the nervous, the neurotic, the outright crazy foster parents and volunteers they deal with every day.

About Adventures in Cat Fostering

I am a cat fosterer for Toronto Cat Rescue. I also have cats of my own, Jonesy, the black and white, and Murphy, the brown tabby, are in the photo. Little Blue was a foster kitten I kept. All were adopted from Toronto Cat Rescue.

I think you don’t give yourself enough credit for all the good you’re doing, over and over again, for the kitties you foster. Your blog has been really helpful for me as a new foster parent. I could barely handle two foster kittens, let alone the gang that you have had in the last couple of months. So, pat on the back to you, though I do also agree with you about the superheroes who run TCR.
